Outdoor Choice Theory & Reality Therapy Basic Intensive Workshop
If you’re looking for a powerful and practical way to deepen your skills when working with people, this outdoor-based Choice Theory and Reality Therapy Basic Intensive Workshop offers a unique opportunity.
Over the course of three nights and four days, you’ll take part in the first stage of the William Glasser Institute UK Certification programme. This module provides a solid foundation in both Choice Theory and Reality Therapy, helping you understand how these approaches can transform the way you support others—and the way you live your own life.
Why outdoors?
We know that many people applying these ideas—teachers, youth workers, counsellors, and outdoor educators—are already using experiential methods with the groups they support. That’s why this workshop takes place not in a conventional classroom, but in an inspiring outdoor learning environment. The natural setting, the shared residential experience, and the activities you’ll take part in all help to bring the theory alive in a way that’s memorable, practical, and deeply engaging.
What you’ll gain
- A clear introduction to the principles of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy.
- Practical tools and strategies you can apply straight away in your own work or personal life.
- Experience of how outdoor and experiential learning can enhance these approaches.
- The opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals and learn together in a supportive group environment.
Whether you work with young people, adults, or community groups, you’ll leave with new insights and techniques to help people make better choices, improve relationships, and take more effective control of their lives.
The setting
The workshop is based at Thorpe Woodlands Adventure Centre in Thetford Forest—a place known for its peaceful woodland surroundings and excellent facilities. Accommodation is provided in cosy Escape Pods, which combine the fun of outdoor living with the comfort of real beds, power, and heating. Shared mealtimes, outdoor activities, and the natural environment all form part of the learning experience.
Who’s it for?
This workshop is open to anyone interested in personal growth and professional development. You don’t need any prior knowledge—just an openness to learning, reflecting, and taking part in group discussions and activities. It’s especially relevant if you’re working in education, youth work, mental health, social care, or outdoor learning.
A step towards certification
This Basic Intensive Workshop is the first of five modules that make up the Choice Theory and Reality Therapy Certification programme. If you’re interested in becoming fully qualified, this residential course is the essential first step.
